The lifeblood of the American economy is energy! The United States gets 85% of its energy from the combustion of coal, oil, and natural gas. A byproduct of that combustion is Carbon-Dioxide (CO2) which has been classified as a Greenhouse Gas.
The term ‘Greenhouse Gas” comes from the theory that certain gases collect in the upper atmosphere and form a shield, like glass in a Greenhouse, that lets the Sun’s rays shine through and prevent heat from escaping freely. There are many scientists that do not accept this theory as factual. The theory is not subject to dispute in this writing. We will for the sake of explanation accept the premise of Greenhouse Gases.
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) in a relatively common gas which is necessary for life. All members of the animal kingdom, including mankind, exhale CO2. All plants use CO2 for photosynthesis, and release O2. About 20 years ago the Watch Dog was engaged in research in which crops were raised in a CO2 enriched atmosphere. The result was faster growing and larger plants that required less water than those grown in a ‘normal’ atmosphere. Small mammals, amphibians, and insects that were kept in the CO2 enriched atmosphere were not harmed.
Carbon Dioxide makes up far less than 1% of all Greenhouse Gases. Therefore, it makes little if any difference in Greenhouse Effect heat retention. Furthermore, man made CO2 makes up a very small portion of the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.
The facts on “Global Warming” are that there has been no increase in the Earths average temperature in 11 years and temperature has been declining for 4 years. These changes do not correspond to any matching decline in CO2 levels.
In the face of this real science the House of Representatives passed (June 6, 2009), the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. Also known as “Cap& Trade”!
According to Obama, this bill will increase—
-- Gasoline prices by 50%,
-- Home and business energy costs by a factor 200% to 300%
Obama also projected that Cap & Trade will cost 3,000,000 jobs.
And those are the optimistic predictions!
The truth is that the technologies required to meet the levels of emissions set forth in this bill do not exist and may never exist.
Meanwhile the cost of production of everything, including food will be driven through the roof.
Cap and Trade whether enacted by Congress or mandated by the EPA may turnout to be more devastating to America than an terrorists A-bomb detonated on Capitol Hill!
