The NRA Vilain Or Not?

None of its 5 million plus members has ever been involved in a mass-shooting; however the NRA is being accused of being responsible for mass-school shootings.

Some fanatics are even calling them a ‘terrorist’ organization.  

Let’s examine the ‘evil’ things that the NRA has done:

1.       The NRA actually wrote the “National Instant Criminal Background Check” (NICS) bill for Congress.  Since then they have advocated for a stronger bill.

2.      Since passage of the bill, the NRA has pushed for better compliance by the states because only 12 states fully comply with reporting felons to be included on the NICS.  

3.      The NRA has encouraged that those mental patients that are adjudicated to be at risk, be included on the NICS.

4.      The NRA provides training programs for local, state, and federal police agencies.

5.      The NRA provides training programs for K thru 12 on firearm safety.

6.      The NRA is the governing body for firearm completion within the U.S.A.

7.      The NRA is the largest protector of the 2^nd Amendment and therefore, the largest protector of the U.S. Constitution.

Congress uses the NRA as a scapegoat for their failure to enact firearm legislation.  The real reason that they can’t enact ‘effective’ firearm legislation is because there is nothing that can be enacted that would prevent any of the mass shootings.  Yes, the NRA does lobby Congress to insure just and effective legislation, but it does not contribute mast sums of money to individual campaigns.  The NRA’s main contribution to elections is the power of its endorsement.

Congress is reluctant to undertake the one thing that has been common to ALL of the mass-shootings in schools—mind altering drugs like Prozac.  Congress will have to be bold and address the HIPAA regulations before the mental health issues can be addressed by the background check.

As we all know the only thing Congress is bold about is blaming others for their lack of courage.

Oh yes, the NRA is an advocate for “Concealed Carry”!   They have a slogan, “Only a good man with a gun can stop a bad man with a gun”.

This would have been the case during the largest mass- school shooting in America that occurred at VPI (July 16, 2007).  Thirty-two were killed and 17 were wounded.  A number of student survivors who were concealed carry permit holders, stated that had they been permitted to ‘carry’ on campus, they could HAVE taken the shooter down.  The weapons used by the ‘insane’ shooter were a pair of 9 mm handguns.

For the record; at the present time, there are over 11 million concealed carry permit holders in the U.S.A., they have a better misuse of firearms record and that of the police.

In truth, concealed carry permit holders thwart crimes many times every day.  You don’t hear about these stories because they don’t fit the Medias anti-firearm agenda.

This writer fails to see anything that would indicate that the NRA has contributed in any way to mass-shootings.

 Certainly it is not a terrorist organization.

U.S. Army Taught That Christians Are No. 1 Extremist Threat

Recently, A Pennsylvania, U.S. Army reserve unit received training on a U.S. Army Reserve Equal Opportunity training brief titled “Extremism and Extremist Organizations.”

Extremism and extremist organizations sound like a topic that our military men and woman need to have knowledge about.

However, this particular document appears to be extremely misguided!

The solders were told that evangelical Christians are the No. 1 extremist threat to America – that’s right, Christians ahead of groups like the Muslim Brotherhood, al-Qaida, Hamas, etc.

Catholicism, ultra-orthodox Judaism, and Mormonism are also on the list of religious extremist organizations. (See list at end)

Note: The document defines religious extremism as those having beliefs, attitudes, feelings or actions that are “far removed from the ordinary.” It then elaborates by saying that “every religion has some followers that believe that their beliefs, customs and traditions are the only ‘right way’ and that all others practicing their faith the ‘wrong way.’”

The brief also discusses the KKK, neo-Nazis, and other white supremacist organizations. A discussion of gangs, tattoos, racist acronyms and the use of numbers are also included.

The material on gangs and racist organizations reads very much like a police briefing on gang issues, however after a discussion of neo-Nazis’ in the military, they move to “Religious Extremism” which lists the Muslim Brotherhood, al-Qaida, Hamas, the Nation of Islam, the Ku Klux Klan and the Christian Identity movement as examples of extremist groups.

One soldier who attended the presentation describes himself as an evangelical, told the trainer he was offended at the material and asked for a copy of the briefing. After receiving a copy, he forwarded the material to Col. (Ret.) Ron Crews, executive director of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty.

Col. Crews had this to say,. “Men and women of faith who have served the Army faithfully for centuries shouldn’t be likened to those who have regularly threatened the peace and security of the United States. It is dishonorable for any U.S. military entity to allow this type of wrongheaded characterization. It also appears that some military entities are using definitions of ‘hate’ and ‘extreme’ from the lists of anti-Christian political organizations. That violates the apolitical stance appropriate for the military.”

”It is astounding that soldiers were taught that a key foundation of the Christian faith is now considered extreme and compared to those who want to implement Shariah law.”

“The idea of salvation being exclusively through Christ is a key doctrine of the Christian faith.

.“It is amazing that the trainer felt they had the authority and right to list evangelical Christian, Catholics and orthodox Jews alongside groups like the Muslim Brotherhood.”

The training fails to provide any incite or examples of how the dreaded evangelical Christians Catholics, Jews and/or Mormons are a danger to those serving in the military. However, it does provide a number of examples of criminal action by the less feared Muslim extremists in our military. Among them are:

• Navy petty officer Hassan Abujihad who emailed classified information to jihadists for possible attacks while serving on a destroyer.

• Ali Abdul Saoud Mohammed, who was an Army Special Forces instructor at the Special Ops Warfare School at Ft. Bragg while simultaneously being a trainer for al-Qaida and traveling overseas to fight with jihadists.

• Sgt Hasan Akbar, who killed two of his soldiers and injured 14 others at a military base in Kuwait when he threw four grenades into three tents where soldiers were sleeping; his reasoning was to prevent the killing of his fellow Muslims.

Not included, by order of the Commander-in-Chief is Maj. Nidal Hasan, who opened fire on fellow soldiers at Ft. Hood while shouting “Allahu Akbar.” Hasan killed 13 (including a pregnant woman) and wounded 30 others.

The Army, under directions from the White House, has gone to great lengths to play down the true nature of Hasan’s attack. The Army, unbelievably, calls the attack a case of workplace violence.

The White House is so intent on covering up this blatant act of terrorism that the wounded soldiers are being denied Purple Hearts, “Because that act might deny the murdering asshole a fair trial.” Never mind that not classifying the shootings an act of terrorist denies survivors and victim’s families much needed assistance.

The Army has even warned Congress that any legislation that would label Major Hasan as a terrorist, “might deny the murdering asshole a fair trial.”

It is unfortunate that Hasan survived the wounds that ended his jihad.

It is also unfortunate that Hasan cannot receive the punishment that he deserves – If the WatchDog had his way, the terrorist Major Hasan would be painted from head to toe with pork fat, tied to a stake and shot.

It is said that the list of terrorists was provided by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) which has claimed that groups such as the Family Research Council and other pro-family groups are hate groups and extremists.

On this matter, Col Crews said, “We’re concerned that the use of the SPLC list is not isolated,. The Army should make sure its equal opportunity officers across the military do not fall prey and use this SPLC list that identifies Christian and conservative organizations as hate groups as the basis for their briefing. Placing evangelical Christians first on the list of religious extremists speaks volumes about how the SPLC views Christianity compared to other religious groups.

This is absolutely abhorrent to all those who identify themselves as evangelical Christians in this country,” Crews said. “We know other commands have used the SPLC list in briefing soldiers about hate crimes and hate groups, but this particular briefing is the most egregious in terms of blatantly identifying evangelical Christianity as the number one extremist group in the United States.”

The material claims the number of “hate groups, extremists and anti-government organizations” has increased because of the prospect of “4 more years under a black president who many on the far right view as an enemy to their country.”

There are thousands of God fearing Americans that consider BO to be public enemy number 1, not because of his color but because he is a Communist that is shredding the Constitution on a daily basis. -WD

The brief goes on to state the purpose of the training is the belief that this issue “may be an indication of internal issues all services will have to face.” It advised participants that extremist organizations are inconsistent with the Army’s goals, beliefs and values regarding equal opportunity.

According to Col Crews, the Army Chief of Chaplains office told the Chaplain Alliance the training was an isolated incident and would not happen again.

Col Crews stated while he accepts the explanation, the Army needs to go further and publicly apologize to all evangelical Christians, Catholics and orthodox Jews.

“We believe the soldiers who attended this briefing should receive another class with the corrected material and the instructor should present a public apology. Evangelical Christians, Catholics and Orthodox Jews should be given an apology for having their faith called into question as extremists similar to the Muslim Brotherhood.

“We don’t want this briefing to multiply. If it is truly an isolated incident then it should be stopped right now and the instructors should be warned not to teach this material again.”

The Army could have done worse! They could have chosen the extremist list from Homeland Security.

That list puts the Military Veteran at the top of the heap!

Obama Has A "Boot On The Throat" Of The Global Economy

The devastation of our coastline is the worst part of it.

But, oh, the painful lessons of the Gulf oil spill.

Let’s start with the “lessons” to which President Obama is currently being subjected. Hopefully Mr. Obama now understands that it is an “art” (and clearly not a “science”) for a President to know how, and when, and in what circumstances to intervene, and what stance to take with the challenges at hand.

Herbert Hoover and Franklin D Roosevelt responded inadequately to the “Great Depression.” John F. Kennedy mishandled the “Bay of Pigs” incident. Jimmy Carter bungled the Iranian Hostage crisis. And, even by President Obama’s own observations, his predecessor George W. Bush displayed “unconscionable ineptitude” in his response to Hurricane Katrina.

Of course, in order to know these things President Obama would need to have been at least somewhat of a student of American history, and I’m uncertain as to what his interest level is with that subject. But we can hope that over the past fifty-five days or so, somebody has told Mr. Obama about some of the struggles of his predecessors.

We can also hope that our President better understands his inability to simply “speak things into existence.” Powerful as he is, things aren’t always as President Obama clams them to be.

It was about a year ago that Mr. Obama delivered his famous address in Cairo, wherein he stipulated that American values and Muslim values are not in conflict with one another, but rather, are complimentary. Since then, the U.S. has sustained three terrorist incidents on domestic soil (the mass murders at Fort Hood Army base last November, the Christmas Day in-flight “underwear bomber” case over the skies of Detroit, and the plot to blow up Times Square a few weeks ago), all of which entailed adherents of one form or another of “radical Islam.”

Just because President Obama makes a moral equivalency of American culture and the culture of the Islamic world, doesn’t mean that such an equivalency exists. And just because the President and members of his Administration insist that “the system worked” or that they were “ready on day one” in the face of a national crisis, doesn’t mean that a crisis is being managed.

Yet, another lesson – for President Obama, and all the rest of us – is that our President’s disposition towards economic matters is, to put it simply, very destructive. President Obama seems to naively assume that wealth creation is essentially a guaranteed thing, and the big question surrounding the economy is how wealth will be distributed, and to whom. President Obama also seems to presume that, just as is the case with Islamic terrorism and oil spill clean-ups, he need only stipulate that something is true, and it will be so.

Consider, for example, President Obama’s proclamation on May 27th that he would seek a “ban” on all off-shore oil drilling. It is understandable why he felt the political need to say such a thing, given that the initial explosion that touched-off the “spill” had happened several weeks prior on April 20th. The President had a political need to do something decisive, so as to look like he was “taking charge” and “handling things.”

Yet the President fulfilling his political need could cost tens of thousands of jobs in the oil, and related industries, and could cost the U.S. economy – especially in the Gulf Coast states – hundreds of millions of dollars in lost revenues. Barack Obama’s attempt to “speak into existence” a solution to the oil spill crisis could end up exacerbating yet another looming crisis – unemployment and a sluggish economy – while doing nothing to contain the spill itself.

Similarly, President Obama seems either to be uncaring about the economic and diplomatic tensions he has created because of his, and his Administration’s disposition towards the British Petroleum Corporation. On May 3rd of this year, President Obama’s Press Secretary Robert Gibbs announced in his now-famous Press Conference that Washington had a “boot on the throat” of B.P. This, apparently, was yet another attempt by the Obama Administration to appear as though they were “in control,” and “handling things.”

But as of last Thursday, June 10th, the left-wing MSNBC network had estimated that shares of B .P. had lost some $71 billion in value, in no small part because of the U.S. federal government’s threats on the corporation. This, in turn, has engendered a backlash against Obama in the U.K., especially from those whose retirement pensions are invested in B.P. stock.

This illustrates one of the greatest tragedies of the Obama presidency: our President’s harshest, most angry, most aggressive words are usually aimed at free enterprise. It’s difficult to imagine our President ever claiming to have a “boot on the throat” of Islamic terrorists, or Iran, or North Korea. Yet even dating back to his earliest days on the presidential campaign trail, he has often spoken words of vitriol towards American businesses, including pharmaceutical companies, car manufacturers, and – yes – oil companies.

The world is learning a very painful lesson – a lesson about Barack Obama.
